September 8, 2016

This morning we once again had to get up early because we had an 8:00 am tour of the Falls. When we got on the bus our guide told us welcome to the walking tour. I cringed when I heard those words. Those of you who know me, know that I would NEVER sign up for that!  This tour came as part of the package. I asked the guide how long the tour was, he said 2 hours. I thought that meant from pickup to return. Nope, I was wrong. We were to be walking for 2 hours.

When we arrived at the Falls it wasn't too hot but it progressively got hotter. The overlooks of the Falls were very pretty but pretty much got to be the same view as we went on so towards the end Pammy and I cut it short and went to the Rainforest Cafe to cool off until the others came back.

Then there was some time for shopping. I think everyone on our tour bought something except for me. I had already seen some things that I wanted to get in Johannesburg airport and plan to get it when we fly back through tomorrow.

Our guide took us back to the lodge where we rested a bit and then decided to ride the shuttle in to town to get lunch. When we got to the restaurant first they didn't have something that Pammy wanted and then I ordered pizza and they said their oven wasn't working. I just said I didn't want anything so we decided to go back to the lodge and eat. It was going to be a while before the shuttle so we were looking at the shops. All at once I felt something on my neck and swatted it. I had been stung by a bee!  Pammy had to pull the stinger out. We then decided not to wait on the shuttle and took a taxi back to the lodge for $8.

Once back at the lodge we decided to go watch them feed the vultures at 1:00 pm. It was so hot we didn't go down and watch it. We drank a coke and got a burger instead. Pammy gave her camera to Chuck and he went down and took the pictures.

I may not have mentioned that we met others on this trip since this was a trip for travel agents. From the beginning it was me and Pammy, Mary and Chuck (Michigan), Dianne and John (California), and Patrick (California). Dianne and John went back home after Shamwari. The rest of us continued on to Victoria Falls. Pammy and I have been doing a lot with Mary and Chuck. Patrick is in a different part of the lodge so we don't see him as much. When we leave tomorrow, Patrick is continuing on to Madagascar.

Later in the afternoon we had a Sunset River Cruise where we looked at wildlife along the way. They also served different appetizers and drinks. It was an enjoyable tour.

As soon as we got off the river cruise they took us to BOMA which was am African buffet where they made us dress us and painted faces.  There was also entertainment at the end. Pammy and I left early and came back to get ready for tomorrow since we will be leaving to go home.

It was a long day.
