Sunday, May 8, 2011 -- Happy Mother's Day

Room Service for breakfast.  Actually on time today.

We arrived in Cadiz, Spain around 7:00 am this morning.  We had an early morning tour today.  We were to meet at 8:20 am for an 8:30 am tour.  We were there on time and ready to go when they called our number for our tour.  We were some of the first in line so got pretty good seats on the bus.  There were actually 3 buses for this tour and we were on the 3rd bus.  Our tour was "White Villages and Countryside".  On the way to the first white village we passed through old town Cadiz.  It was very pretty but we didn't have time to stop and look at anything.

Our first stop was a service station so we could all use the restroom.  Of course with 3 buses the line was really long but it passed quickly.  Of course Pat had to get a cup of coffee (not Starbucks).  We then drove through the countryside where our guide narrated what we were seeing.   She did speak English, but some of the things I had a hard time understanding.  Pat took lots of notes so I told her she needed to type them up and print out copies for us.  For those of you that don't know Pat, she takes a spiral notebook with her wherever she goes and takes notes on anything said.  She is always prepared.

Our first town was the beautiful village of Vejer de la Frontera.  The bus let us off at the bottom of the hill and we had a walking tour up to the top of the town.  The whole village was white and  the streets were very narrow.  Several times, we had to stand up against the buildings so cars could pass through the streets.  The walking tour lasted about an hour and then we boarded the bus to go to another village to visit.  On the way, we stopped at a scenic point where we photographed the Trafalgar Cape Lighthouse.  The weather is so pretty and clear today that we could see land across the ocean.  The tour guide said that it was Africa.

Our next village that we stopped at was Conil de la Frontera.  At this village, they just dropped us off and gave us a map of the town.  We had less than an hour to explore so we walked down the main street and finally stopped at a little restaurant.  Pat had a cup of coffee and the rest of us had a cup of ice cream.  After we finished that, it was time to walk back to the bus.  We took our time and took a few pictures of the beach.  There were lots of people out enjoying the beautiful weather today.

It took us about 40 minutes to get back to the ship and once on board we -- you guessed it -- went to eat.

I was sitting down writing this and looked up at the time and had to rush off.  It was time for BiNGO.  Good thing I noticed the time.  We both won.  Mary P won the 2nd game and had to split a pot of $131.  I won the 3rd game and had to split a pot of $151.  I actually should have had 2/3 of the $151 instead of just half.  I had 2 cards that I  bingoed on at the same time.  They said they could only pay me for 1.  In the real world I would have been paid for both of them.

After bingo it was time for the sail away.  We stood out on our balcony and waved at those in sailboats going by.  I think this is the first time we have been out on deck during sail away.  Of course we have been at sea for 100 days I think!  Once we sailed away we went to -- DINNER.

The after dinner show tonight was Barry John -- a juggler.  He had been on the Letterman Show at some time.  He was talented and funny but you can just juggle so much.  I will say that he ended the show balancing a big TV on the end of a stick on the top of his head.

When the show was over we rushed up to the Hydrotherapy Pool.  As we went in, I looked out the window and there was land on both sides of the ship.  On the right side was Africa and the left side was Spain.  This was pretty neat to see.  We didn't stay in the spa long because we wanted to go out on deck and try and get some pictures.  Of course it was getting dark at that point so you really can't tell much from the pictures.  This was the
Straits of Gibraltar that we were going through entering into the Mediterranean Sea.  It was too dark to get a good picture of the Rock of Gibraltar.

Tomorrow we have a very long day.  We will be in Almeria, Spain.  Our excursion is sponsored by the ship and we will be going to Granada and the Alhambra a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The tour is supposed to last about 9 hours.  It is a 2.5 hour drive each way and Mary P was just looking at our tour tickets and it said there is approximately 2.5 miles of walking.  I sure hope it isn't all uphill!

Well that's all for now.  I hope everyone had a Happy Mother's Day today.
